I chose the item The effect of Hurricane Katrina on the labor market outcomes of evacuees because I believed that this item would give me the most relevant information to my question out of the three offered to me.

7. What makes this a reference book as opposed to a regular book you might find in the book stacks?
This, Although it was not a book, but an article, was published by the United States government, making it a reference because it has official statistics and gives the reader the straight facts.
8. In looking at the material in the book and the publication date in the bibliographic information, what year do you think the information really comes from?
I believe that this information has to come from between 2005 and 2008, the date of the event and the date of the article publication. the information was probably being compiled during the gap of time between the event and the publication.

You did a good job on this with one caveat. This isn't a reference book. It's a government document. To get a reference book, you'd need to combine your word search with "reference collection" from the "location" section in the advanced word search.

As a final point of information, when I went to the introduction in the book, I read this: "We use data from the Current Population Survey collected both before and after Hurricane Katrina," so the data must come from before 2005 as well as after 2005, since Katrina occurred in August 2005 and the economic data was probably available from as far back as 2002. Economic censuses are conducted every five years in '02 and '07, with the data published generally a year or so after it's collected.
